Following from my last post, Creating YouTube mobile app UI (dark mode) using React Native, I wanted to share my learnings and experience about how I got started with cross-platform mobile application development using React Native with my team and hoped to encourage my colleagues to try it out for themselves. I ran a Brown Bag session couple of weeks ago, where I talked about React Native. You might ask what is a Brown Bag session?

A brown bag session is an informal meeting that occurs in the workplace generally around lunchtime. It is referred to as the Brown bag because the participants typically bring their lunches, which are often packed in brown paper bags. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚

I wasnโ€™t quite sure at the beginning what to build in order to demonstrate how to get started and to introduce different components, but eventually, I ended up building the following Food Trucks application.

Images used within the app are taken from Unsplash.

You can try out the actual app on Expo
